De-clutter for a cure
Your old stuff is someone else’s treasureBy QMI Agency
You have to clear out your closets, organize the garage and tidy the basement anyway – so why not do it for a cause? On Saturday, May 29, homeowners across the country will de-clutter and do some good in the 6th annual Yard Sale for the Cure in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. “Everyone knows someone who has been touched by breast cancer,” says Sandra Palmaro, CEO of the CBCF’s Ontario chapter. She encourages everyone to get involved and help raise funds for promising research into a cure. “I have three girls in my house – my wife and two daughters – and I’d do anything to protect them,” says Toronto’s Brett Farren. “I’m hosting our 4th annual yard sale to prevent them from ever being affected by breast cancer.” To host your own yard sale, sign up on the website. With your $25 registration fee you’ll get an official yard sale kit with everything you need to make your yard sale a success – lawn signage, posters, a T-shirt, pink balloons and an information package. Or just plan to shop at a yard sale near you – find one on the website, and enter to win a yard sale shopping experience with designer Jane Lockhart, host of the hit TV series Colour Confidential. “I’ve long been a fan of hitting yard sales and finding unexpected treasures,” says Lockhart. “Yard Sale for the Cure is a fantastic opportunity to not only purge unwanted household items but also to make a real difference.” Founded in 2005 by breast cancer survivor Rachael Smith in her Toronto Beach community, Yard Sale for the Cure has raised over $650,000 to date. Says Smith, “Together we can succeed in creating a future where our daughters will never have to hear the words, ‘You have breast cancer.’” |
