Take your time while showhome shopping and never rush the process, says Ryan Hall, marketing director for Baywest Homes.
"In the showhome parade, take a good close look at the builder's model homes. Are they soundly built, and well-finished? How do they compare with other homes in the parade? Do you feel comfortable with the salesperson, and are they able to build the type of home you are looking for?"
"Discuss your priorities, needs and dreams with the builder. Certain companies specialize in constructing certain types of homes -- like high-end custom homes or perhaps starter homes. They will be able to make suggestions to help stretch your budget and get you the greatest value for your money."
Finding the right builder also means understanding what product is right for you, adds Ungar.
"Does the product being offered by the builder meet your needs? A quality builder will ensure that a process is laid out for you from the start.
Last of all, always listen to your gut feeling when it comes to choosing such an investment.
"This is one of the most major purchases you can make. If it feels right, chances are it will be. If lack of trust is a factor, then move on."
