Planting a seed in small spaces
By ANDREA RADKE, Calgary Sun

Transforming a bleak balcony into a flourishing green haven just in time for summer can be a daunting task even for the greenest of thumbs.

We asked the experts: "How can I create a lush garden space if all I have is a tiny balcony?"

All it takes is a little creativity when you are moving Mother nature onto your teeny balcony, says Kelly O'Gorman, of Tinkerbell Gardens, which specializes in balcony, courtyard and patio container gardens.

"The first key to remember is to try anything and everything.

It's really about being adventurous when you have a smaller space. Don't be afraid to try new things."

Potted plants are a great way to add a decorative touch to your patio but you can also look at furniture and lawn ornaments to add some personality.

"You can really play with height and texture when it comes to potted plants. You can have beautiful cascading plants to give your balcony an added sense of privacy," she says.
