Edible flowers are a familiar garnish in many restaurants. However, most people move the flowers to the side of the plate rather than eat them, according to the National Garden Bureau. Nasturtiums and pansies are the most commonly used flowers and are in salads, vinegars and hors d'oeuvres.
The non-profit organization is dedicated to improving air quality and is asking Canadians to trade in their pollution-spewing gas mowers and trimmers.
Buying edible flowers can be expensive though, says the Bureua, and are best eaten the day they are picked. So why not try growing your own?
