Quicks ways to make time for hobbies
By Cheryll Gillespie
There are a couple of things that we can easily do to help take care of us. For me, this is the day that I am going to clean out my cosmetics drawer and cupboard. I have a lot, in fact too much, but I am about to remedy that situation as I pear down to only what I use. I bought some great lipstick and small Lucite containers at the local bed and linen store and am about to transform my vanity.
So how does this benefit me? Well when we look good we feel good and I’m tired of spending 2 minutes searching for my eyeliner or a favorite shade of lipstick….I want instant gratification.
My next makeover happens in bed. Nothing makes us feel or look better than a good night’s sleep so taking advantage of the white sales, I bought a set of cozy flannel sheets and a new pair of pillows. You should buy new pillows every couple of months and I love the cozy feel of flannel on a winter night.
I also have a bottle of lavender essential oil on my night stand, a few drops on a pillow before bed ensures a good nights rest. Especially if you are suffering from jet leg or too much stress - try it, from a girl who flies to and from Asia at least twice a month, it works.
Stress experts always talk about finding a hobby. I personally don’t need to find one (I have lots) I just need to find the time to enjoy all of my hobbies. This year I hope to find more ‘hobby time’ by making it easier to do the hobbies. By the time many of us set up the sewing machine or haul out our craft supplies our hobby time has elapsed or the inspiration has past.
This year I plan on creating a small art studio where my easels and canvases can remain standing and intact so that when the creative vibe hits I can stroll to that magical corner and simply pick up a brush and get to work. Or, if I have an inspiration for a new set of pillows for the sofa, I can stroll into the sewing room and fire up the sewing machine and get creative. I’m not suggesting (although perhaps this is a great reason to move or renovate) that we build an addition or kick the kids out so that we can have their room, I’m simply suggesting that we create creative space with in existing space.
For example, if you love to paint, a canvas on an easel and a small table filled with your brushes and paints can look very stylish by the window in the family room or in the dining room. A craft or sewing room can find a permanent home under the stairs or in a guest room.. There’s always a spot and always a way.
I think that all of us should take the time to make time for things we enjoy this year. So pick your hobby and get started building that hobby area. This is the year that we have no time for stress but lots of time for the things we love. |
