Animal-inspired influences and rich earth tones are the ultimate in area rugs, say Calgary designers.
And while those of the Persian variety immediately come to mind, says Dianna Barry, interior manager at Chintz & Company, the more contemporary options are endless.
"The newest and greatest in area rugs are the hides," she says.
"Many are actual cow hides, while others are made to look like zebra hides."
Even the traditional patchwork quilt is taking a trip on the wild side, with jungle and farmyard-inspired squares.
"We're also seeing a lot of vintage 1930s Hollywood trends coming back, and the zebra rugs, especially, tie into that," Barry says.
What's making the animal influence so popular is the fact they go with pretty much everything.
"'The hides go with a number of different looks, from elements with modern, clean lines to rustic finishes," says Barry.
